This Old Earth
This old earth
Needs our help
To stay fresh and clean and green
With a pick it up; pitch it in; and throw it in the can--
This old earth needs a helping hand!
Everyday is Earth Day
Everyday is Earth Day,
If it's cold or wet or hot
Pitch in to save the planet
It's the only one we've got.
Save The Earth
People everywhere
breathe the same air,
share the same seas,
live together on the land.
People everywhere
who learn, plan,
work, care,
can
save the earth.

I love these poems! Using poems in the classroom is not something I would want to miss when becoming an English teacher later. There are various reasons to preach teaching poems: First of all, kids and students love it. They love rhymes and the music inherent in poems.
ReplyDeleteBesides, I think poetry lessons can make students love the language as they are encouraged to use it creatively. Moreover, it urges students to learn more vocabulary as they look for words that would rhyme with other words. This can be also used to consolidate the recognition of the stress in words.
I agree with Adeline that poetry lessons can encouraged students to use the language more creatively. Poetry requires students to use a lot of vocabulary and in a way, this will enhance their english as well.
ReplyDeleteMoreover, these poems are short and apt. I think they will be easy for students to remember as well.
Using poems in class helps the students to feel the language, its tones and rhythm. Students will be more motivated and engaged.

ReplyDeletethanks for browsing through. I am agree with both of you! The poem is short and simple for students to grasp the meaning . More over, while reading through the poem, students might find the rhythm is sad and gloomy, thus it might encourage them to save our earth.
